Recruitment to the project – Chelmno on the Ner

Recruitment for the project “Historical education – extermination of Roma and Sinti during World War II and dissemination of knowledge in the local environment”

The former extermination camp in Chelmno on the Ner is one of the most important points on the map of the martyrdom of the Roma and Sinti during the Second World War. On 3 August 2016, a monument was unveiled dedicated to the Roma and Sinti who were sent to this German camp from the Lodz Ghetto in January 1942 and were murdered there. In total, some 4,300 Roma from various countries died in this camp. The camp was the first centre created by the Germans for the sole purpose of carrying out mass executions.

As part of the project participants will take part in a professional guided tour of the former camp and attend workshops led by specialist educators.

The aim of the above activities is to increase knowledge of the history of the Roma and Sinti, and in particular that concerning the most important historical events in the history of the Roma and Sinti in Europe, namely the extermination of the Roma people during the Second World War and its consequences. Educators will also learn about the fate of Roma and Sinti in the camp at Kulmhof on the Ner.

The event will take place on 27.11.2023. Departure from Gorzów Wielkopolski in the morning, return in the evening of the same day.
