Despite the fact that Roma are the largest ethnic minority in the city and in Poland as a whole, Roma children and young people do not have the chance to receive adequate education about their history taking into account the period of the extermination of Roma and Sinti during World War II, which is considered to be one of the most important elements in the history of this nation, forming the contemporary Roma ethnic identity. Apart from minor mentions, such education is not included in the school curriculum. Roma children and young people should know their history, educational excursions to sites related to the martyrdom of the Roma and Sinti are an opportunity to do so. The Memorial Museum in Belzec is one of the most important points on the map of Roma and Sinti martyrdom during the Second World War. The museum is also a branch of the State Museum at Majdanek. However, 26 October each year is the day on which ceremonies are held at the memorial to the murdered Roma and Sinti, victims of the labour and extermination camp in Belzec. The event will take place in October 2023. Recruitment for the project will begin in September 2023.
