The foundation’s programme

Understanding diversity

How can knowledge be effectively translated into trust and tangible action in situations where the day-to-day work of civil servants, teachers and uniformed services comes into contact with cultural diversity?

“Understand diversity. Build trust. Act responsibly.”

The answer lies in the comprehensive training programme run by the Dom na Pograniczu Foundation

At the Dom na Pograniczu Foundation, we support towns and cities that are prepared to ask themselves: are the local uniformed services, civil servants and teachers able, in their day-to-day work, to distinguish between a culturally-motivated incident and Romaphobia, systemic anti-Gypsyism and institutional racism?

The programme is delivered through three separate competence pathways, each of which is tailored to the specific nature of the work carried out by a different professional group.

Local government

The main objective is to remove institutional barriers, improve the identification of local needs, and promote social and civic integration.

Teaching staff

The aim is to foster an inclusive and safe school environment, combat anti-Roma sentiment and support pupils from multicultural backgrounds.

Uniformed services

The aim is to ensure professional intercultural communication during interventions, to counteract stereotyping and to de-escalate conflicts.

Modern public institutions, schools and the uniformed services are increasingly faced with challenges arising from cultural diversity.

Communication barriers, entrenched stereotypes and a low level of mutual trust are still evident in relations with the Roma community.

A lack of systematic staff training risks exacerbating social exclusion and rendering integration programmes ineffective.

The training courses offered by the Dom na Pograniczu Foundation provide practical tools that enable civil servants, teachers and law enforcement officers to act professionally, in accordance with the principles of equal treatment and respect for human rights.
